Preparing for Professional Headshots in Denver

A professional headshot is often your first introduction before a meeting, interview, consultation or sales call. Intentionality around your LinkedIn profile, launching a business or refreshing your personal brand can make a significant difference in the final images.

What Should I Wear for Professional Headshots?

Wardrobe has one of the biggest impacts on your final photographs. I typically recommend solid colors, timeless pieces and clothing that feels authentic to your personality and profession. Most clients photograph best in clothing that fits well and feels comfortable.

Avoid large logos, distracting graphics and overly trendy pieces that may quickly date your images.

If you're unsure what to wear, I'm always happy to help review options before your Denver headshot session.

Should I Choose Studio or Outdoor Headshots?

Both can be beautiful.

Studio headshots offer a clean, timeless look that works well for attorneys, executives, consultants and professionals seeking a polished appearance.

Outdoor and environmental headshots can feel more relaxed and approachable while adding personality and context to your images.

The best location depends on how you plan to use your photographs and the impression you'd like to create.

What If I'm Awkward in Front of the Camera?

Almost every client says this before their session.

You do not need modeling experience or posing knowledge. My role is to guide you through natural movement, expression and subtle adjustments throughout the session. Most people find that once they stop worrying about what to do, the experience becomes surprisingly comfortable.

The strongest headshots rarely come from perfect poses. They come from genuine connection and confidence.

How Often Should I Update My Headshot?

Most professionals benefit from updating their headshot every two to three years.

You may want to update sooner if you've changed industries, launched a business, significantly changed your appearance or are actively networking and growing your online presence.

Your headshot should accurately reflect how people will recognize you when they meet you.

Are Professional Headshots Worth It?

For many professionals, a headshot is one of the most frequently viewed photographs of their lifetime.

LinkedIn profiles, company websites, speaking engagements, social media profiles, marketing materials and press features often rely on a single image to make a first impression.

Professional headshots help create trust, credibility and recognition before a conversation ever begins.

How Many Outfits Should I Bring?

Most clients bring two to four options depending on the length of their session.

I generally recommend a variety of looks that support different uses, such as LinkedIn, company websites, speaking engagements, marketing materials and social media.

A small amount of variety can dramatically increase the usefulness of your final gallery.

Should I Hire a Hair and Makeup Artist?

Professional hair and makeup is never required, but many clients appreciate the confidence it provides.

The goal is not to look different. The goal is to look like the most rested, polished and confident version of yourself.

Natural, professional styling photographs beautifully and can help reduce retouching needs later.

What Makes a Great Headshot?

The best headshots feel authentic.

A great headshot communicates confidence, approachability and professionalism while still feeling like you. Strong lighting, thoughtful posing and genuine expression all contribute, but authenticity remains the most important ingredient.

People connect with people. The goal is to create photographs that help others feel comfortable reaching out, starting a conversation or doing business with you.
